Orders of Input/Output Differential Equations and State Space Dimensions

This paper deals with the orders of input/output equations satisfied by nonlinear systems. Such equations represent differential (or difference, in the discrete-time case) relations between high-order derivatives (or shifts, respectively) of input and output signals. It is shown that, under analyticity assumptions, there cannot exist equations of order less than the minimal dimension of any obs...

Generalized Input/Output Equations and Nonlinear Realizability∗

This work studies various types of input/output representations for analytic input/output operators. It is shown that if an operator satisfies an integro-differential input/output equation or an integral one, then it is locally realizable by analytic state space systems. This generalizes the results previously obtained for differential input/output equations to integral and integro-differential...

Factorization of self-adjoint ordinary differential equations

Keyword: Factorization method Self-adjoint differential equations Eigenvalue problems This paper deals with the factorization of self-adjoint differential operators Lð2nÞ 1⁄4 1 q d n dx qb d n dx , and their spectral type differential equations. Sufficient conditions of factorization are reported. A large class of differential operators and equations that can be factorized is obtained. The fact...

Convexity and Hamiltonian equations in differential games

We study a zero sum differential game under strong assumptions of convexity — the cost is convex for one player, and concave for the other. An explicit necessary and sufficient condition for a saddle point of the game is given in terms of convex analysis subgradients of the conjugate of the cost function. A generalized Hamiltonian equation is shown to describe saddle trajectories of the game.
